A British vacationer has been awarded $375,000 in a landmark settlement against the owners of a vacation rental property in Hollywood Hills. The tourist, Meshak Moore, suffered hundreds of bed bug bites during his stay in 2015. Despite initially attributing the bites to mosquitoes, Moore later discovered a severe bed bug infestation in the property. The owners, Henry Huang and Robert Norris of Bamboo Retreats, LLC., were found negligent and liable for Moore’s injuries caused by the infestation. Although Moore was awarded $500,000 for his pain and suffering, the total award was reduced due to his failure to disclose the bites promptly. This case is the largest ever recorded against a vacation rental property over a bed bug infestation, making it a historic payout. Bedbug-related cases are becoming an epidemic, affecting hotels and rental properties worldwide.
