Los Angeles has once again become the focus of national attention after large-scale immigration raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) triggered a wave of protests across the city. What began as peaceful gatherings quickly turned chaotic, resulting in property damage, injuries, multiple arrests, and the deployment of the National Guard.

Federal agents carried out coordinated operations on June 6, 2025, targeting various locations including the Fashion District and federal facilities in Downtown LA. These actions prompted an outcry from immigrant communities and advocates, leading to mass protests near detention centers and throughout the city, especially in Paramount and Compton. Some demonstrations escalated into violent confrontations between protesters and federal officers, involving tear gas, rubber bullets, flash grenades, and physical force.

In response, the federal government authorized the deployment of over 2,000 National Guard troops, although reports confirmed only 300 have been deployed on the ground so far. The situation has sparked intense debate between state and federal leaders, with California Governor Gavin Newsom denouncing the federal response as inflammatory and unnecessary.

Legal Risks and Personal Impact: What to Do If You Were Affected

At Pacific Coast Injury Law Center, we understand that during these turbulent moments, innocent individuals often suffer. Whether you were peacefully protesting, caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, or experienced emotional distress due to the events unfolding around you, it’s important to know your rights and act quickly.

If you were physically injured, unlawfully detained, or targeted with excessive force, you may be entitled to legal action and compensation.

Common Legal Issues Arising from These Events:

  • Excessive use of force by law enforcement or military personnel

  • Wrongful arrest or detention during peaceful protest

  • Injuries from crowd control measures, such as tear gas, rubber bullets, or flash-bang grenades

  • Property damage caused by either government forces or violent individuals during unrest

  • Emotional distress caused by witnessing violence or experiencing discrimination

What You Should Do Immediately:

  1. Seek medical attention for any physical injuries, even if they seem minor at first.

  2. Document the incident – take photos or videos of injuries, damage, or interactions with law enforcement.

  3. Collect witness information if others saw what happened or recorded the incident.

  4. Do not speak to authorities without legal counsel if you’ve been detained or contacted.

  5. Preserve any evidence, including social media posts, messages, or location data that proves where you were and what occurred.
